Two more sculptural vessel forms

Updated: Sep 16, 2021

I am focusing on making, and have started two more vessels. I have started the design from the footprint again, which I have modified slightly in each case, as I try to find the best inner and outer form. Both pots incorporate a section made using the newest extruder die.

For the first vessel, I plan to use Valentines black clay, with slip motifs, the clay body tests showed good results for this combination, so this vessel will focus on colour contrasting the black clay with grey, terracotta and cream slip, I do not plan to add texture. The clay is good for slab building, so I am going to focus on trying to get nice clean joins and a good overall form.

For the second vessel I have chosen crank clay as it is a great clay body for slab building, and is very effective for both texture and water etching. I have decided to try an almost flat top for this vessel, to bring focus to the shape inside the vessel, rather than the 'urban skyline' element.

I had initially considered making a set of three pots of varying sizes stacked inside each other, but Rob told me to focus on making, so hopefully I will end up with five separate sculptural vessels, including one on a larger scale, for consideration by the assessment deadline. Fingers crossed the kiln gods are kind.
