Making
This piece went without a hitch. I used a thicker slab, and kept the cuts at the base to a minimum, such that the weight of the piece is focused on the largest middle section, and does not actually need the right angle end pieces. I have followed all the advice from within Uclan and outside that I have received, as well as closely comparing the previous seven or eight pieces of this kind to select the most succesful elements.
Painterly Colour Effects
I particularly like the mark making on this piece. It reminds me of travelling on the tram in the city. One panel in particular reminds me of a street where the tram speeds past the many windows of an old factory, that is no longer in use. Each panel is like a separate painting, an abstract but familiar city centre scene. I am looking forward to living with this new piece at home for a while now, before it goes into an exhibition in January..
