Traces of time
These ceramic forms are quiet studies of buildings, not the pristine facades, but the hidden weathered backs, where time leaves its marks. Each found corner holds a memory of a building’s life: a patch of rust, a line of wiring, an uneven repair, or
the ghost of old paint. Each scar speaks of buildings that have lived many lives, shaped by the hands and needs of people who once worked, rested, and passed through them. Human actions and decisions, adaptation and change.
The clay forms echo these histories through their surfaces — built up with slips, oxides and
glazes in muted tones of white, grey and brown. The bands of colour are roughly edged and
scratched, the marks are a response to what remains visible, carried forward in material and memory.
These works absorb fragments of the past within their surfaces, layers that speak of
what endures. They carry the sense of places once known, that might stir a feeling of recognition, though their story has long since faded.
In their stillness, they invite reflection on what marks linger within the buildings and we hold dear: the faint, enduring presence of lives, moments, and places we continue to hold close.
